Aya & Zara

ABOUT

Aya and Zara is a concise game (5 min) I created for my best friend's daughter, Aya. Today (6/22/24, the day I created this page) is her birthday party where she became 8 years old. Zara, the other character is her dog, a sweet French Bulldog.

To ensure she got something physical at her birthday party, I printed a label and slapped it on an old Battle City NES cartridge that was not working.

STORY

The main storyline is that Zara is missing. Luckily, Zara left behind pieces of her favorite treat, a bone-shaped biscuit. Aya decides to look for her best friend to bring it home.

CONTROLS

Keyboard:

• Left and Right arrow keys to move
• Up arrow or SPACE keys to jump

Controller:

• D-pad to move
• South button to jump

DEVELOPMENT AND CREDITS

This is my first Godot project. Thanks to Brackeys, I'm starting to learn and getting my hands dirty in Godot (I'm loving it btw).

The project starting point was created following this tutorial -> Brackeys - How to make a Video Game - Godot Beginner Tutorial.

The art assets are from the Minifantasy pack created by Krishna Palacio. These assets were created for top-down projects, but I used them in a platformer game. I thought it became quite charming that way. I modified and made a few of them to fit the game theme.

I used the SFX from the Leohpaz Complete SFX Bundle. 

And last but not least, the music made by Impasaurus, Zane Little, Modus Ponens, doctorn0gloff, jakerson, damifortune, Beej.
